Buying A New Garage Door: What To Consider

Source

Buying a new garage door is not like buying a new pair of shoes or clothes. This means more time, energy, and money, plus you have to do your homework before you buy to make sure you end up with the right choice.

Some of the most important things to study are factors to consider. These factors help you narrow down your options and allow you to make an informed decision. These are the factors to check before buying a garage door.Mechanism

Garage doors come in different types: rolling, sectional, tilting (awning), tilting (retractable), and side-hinged. Each type has its pros and cons that you should study to find out which is the best option for you. For example, sectional garage doors are space-saving, sturdy, and safe. You would love to go for this option if you don’t mind the extra cost as these doors require professional installation and are more expensive than other types. Make sure you have automatic openers for maximum safety and protection.Size

Sizes vary for different types of garage doors. You should get a comprehensive guide on how to accurately measure your garage for the specific type you plan to buy.Material

When it comes to material, your best options include steel, wood, and fiberglass. For most homeowners, steel is the most practical option, offering quality and low price in one package. In fact, it is the strongest material of the three. It is also inexpensive compared to wooden doors. Wooden doors are the most beautiful of the three types, but they are not recommended if you are on a budget, as they are very expensive. Meanwhile, fiberglass is a suitable option if you live near coastal regions, as this material will not succumb to corrosion from saltwater.Price

Most buyers are looking for the best prices for garage doors. Garage doors from China generally cost between $ 600 and $ 1000, depending on material, features, and type. To make sure you save on the cost of your purchase, consider shopping online. The online marketplace offers the most competitive rates on high-quality products. Look for an online store that sells top-tier brands, provides excellent service, offers a low-price guarantee, and free delivery.Design

Although not as important as quality or durability, design is also a factor that you would like to review to achieve a nice look for your garage. A door can be personalized with paints or stains. Wooden doors can also be adorned with recessed panels, glass inserts, and flush designs.Brand

Lastly, don’t forget to check out the brand. A brand is not just a name. It is a testament to the quality of the China WDMA gate. Trust only world-class brands for quality and safety.

Buying a new garage door can take a lot of work. But once you see the fruits of your labor, you will know that all your efforts are worth it.

Garage Door Prices and Factors Affecting Their Variability

Source

Garage door prices are variable. This is due to various factors such as the material used, its types, quality, size, insulation, style, warranty, and much more. So if you are looking for a garage door that suits your tastes and preferences, it is best to know your options before you finally make up your mind and buy one. Durable China WDMA garage doors can be expensive, but the maintenance cost is kept to a minimum. The mechanism used to operate the door is another consideration and also affects the price.

When it comes to garage door material, you can choose from conventional aluminum, steel, fiberglass, and wood garage doors. Steel garage doors are durable as they cannot be easily broken or dented. Fiberglass material is a more durable option than wood and is not difficult to maintain. It is also expected to last a long time. Aluminum is more durable than fiberglass, but not as strong as steel. Wood material will give your garage a natural look and good insulation. Whatever material you are looking for, you can always get simple, high-quality doors depending on how much you are willing to pay.

You can also look at the different types of doors such as roll-up, flip-up, or sideways. The mechanism of operation can also differ and affect garage door prices. Some doors are manually operated, motor-operated, or remotely controlled. If your garage door is automated, you can expect to pay more money compared to the manual mechanism.

Another consideration when buying doors that would definitely affect your prices is design or aesthetics. If you go for simple-looking doors, you can have them for less compared to those with complex designs. The additional cost is attributed to the special cutting or molding. There are special doors that are printed and textured. In addition to style, door prices will also cover installation costs.

The size will also affect the prices of the door. The wider the door becomes, the more expensive it becomes. Most of the time, you need to get to the right side of the door and hire a professional to do the measurement, including installation of course. Otherwise, you will have additional costs for resizing, sanding, and cutting. In the case of using fiberglass material, it will be expensive to resize your garage door, so be careful and make sure you get the correct size for the door. Selecting garage doors can take time, but it would be nice if you could learn more about your options and make a solid decision in the end.

Choosing the Right Garage Door Sizes for Your Home

Source

A garage door is truly one of the most important security features that you can perform in your home or office. It is not just a way to keep your vehicle out of the rain and snow. It is an important access point that some people take for granted. If you are going to spend money on this important part of your home, you need to make sure you get the China WDMA door for your garage.

Simplified measurement

You will want to measure the height and width of the door. Since most standard doors have even feet, that is, 8 feet by 9 feet, you can use a measuring stick. If you try to measure size by “looking” at it, you could have a problem if your “eyeball” is not calibrated correctly!

Standard sizes

Some door sizes are considered standard. These include 8 x 7 feet, 8 x 8 feet, 8 x 9 feet, 9 x 8 feet, 10 x 7 feet, and 10 x 8 feet for single-car garages. For double doors, the standard sizes are 12, 14, 16, and 18 feet by 7 feet and 12, 14, 16, and 18 feet by 8 feet. You can also order a custom size, but expect to pay a lot more. Buy garage doors of different sizes from the WDMA online store.

What other measures are necessary?

You will also want to measure the side space and headroom. This will help determine what type of track and hardware can be installed. Most will require at least 3 ¾ inches on each side of the door and 5 ½ inches at the top. However, each manufacturer may have its own specifications. Make sure you know which ones they are for the type of door you are considering.

This will depend on your skill level as a handyman! If you are going to do the installation yourself, you will need to make sure you have the proper tools. You will also need someone to help you as the door is quite large, heavy, and cumbersome. A professional can be the answer you need if your garage door sizes are custom or very large, like a triple door. You don’t want to try to lift the door yourself, only to have it collapse in the middle of the night!

Conclusion

Since many of today’s garage door sizes are standard, you can probably find a good deal. However, for custom doors, you can expect to pay at least double and the installation could cost you more as well.

Build Your Home With Larger Garage Doors

Source

When designing a new home or garage, it is very important to take the time to consider what sizes of garage doors will work best. It is important not to assume that you will only need a standard-size China WDMA door. Once you have made the decision, it is more or less irrevocable. In addition, you should also consider increasing the size of your garage and that also includes the height of the garage walls. It really is hard to beat an oversized garage.

Even if you currently only own a midsize car, you should seriously consider spending the extra money to make your garage bigger and that includes garage doors. Standard garage door sizes include 8’x7 ‘and 8’x16’ sizes. These sizes fit the midsize car comfortably, but not a large SUV or ordinary pickup truck. In many cases, an 8-foot headroom simply won’t give a truck enough vertical headroom, and many times the truck’s mirrors won’t cut through the 7-foot width.

If you work with your builder and architect, you will find that it will not cost much more to increase the height of the garage wall. If you do, you will have many more options in terms of capacity. A garage with 10 high side walls easily fits a 9-foot garage door. So why do you need a 9-foot garage door? If you own a truck, sooner or later you will have it loaded with a high load and that load will easily reach the garage and out of the weather. If you load the trunk of your SUV with a luggage box in most cases, it will not go through a standard 7-foot-tall garage door.

When it comes to garage door sizes, width is also a critical consideration. If you own a boat or utility trailer, you will find that they are often about 9 feet wide. This means your toys will be outside in the weather because they are too wide to fit through the standard 7-foot wide door. Even a person who handles a vehicle and trailer well will appreciate the added width of a 10 or 12-foot wide door when returning the load to the garage. The extra width can also prevent people from hitting your truck’s mirrors.

In many cases, people will opt for the standard 16-foot double garage doors. These doors give you the width you need to back up your pontoon boat and other wide loads. Again, having a 9 or 10-foot high door will allow you to back up without removing the bimini or hardtop.

Designing and building a home with an oversized garage is a good investment in the value of your home. Even if you never use your garage to its full potential, it will attract a larger market when it comes time to sell your home. Using large garage doors will allow the next owner to store all of his toys in the garage. This is especially true if your oversized garage is also closed with the best garage doors. In terms of spending on the price of your garage door, a small extra amount of money to oversize your garage can substantially increase the value of your property.

One of the best ways is to simply measure your old door. However, you may want to consider the following information on China WDMA garage door sizes to make sure they fit securely.

What sizes of garage doors are available?

Various sizes are considered standard. These include 8×7, 9×7, 10×7, 8×8, 9×8, and 10×8. These are typically the ones you’ll find in most single-car garages. There are also some standard two-car garage doors, such as 12×7, 14×7, 16×7, 18×7, 16×8, and 18×8. There are also custom sizes.

You will see that many of the standard sizes are also available in second-hand garage doors. The key is knowing where to find them. You can also find great deals online at discounted garage door sellers.

What kind of door is better?

Depending on your budget, there are a variety of different garage doors. Most of the cost will depend on the material. These can include steel, wood, or vinyl, and each has its own advantages. Some are stronger, some require little maintenance, and some just look impressive. Steel doors are usually the strongest, but they can get dented. You will find all the common sizes in steel doors, as many homeowners are looking for the lowest price.

Vinyl doors are beautiful and available in a wide range of colors and textures. Wooden doors look especially beautiful but will require painting. You’ll want to decide what type of door you want, and then make sure it’s available in the correct sizes.

Another thing to consider is the installation costs. Obviously, with the different sizes, a double door will cost more than a single one. You can install the door yourself or you can hire someone to do it for you. However, you’ll want to make sure whoever does the installation gets it right. Otherwise, you may find it lying on the ground when you get home from work.

Some final thoughts

It doesn’t take much to see that there are many options available in terms of sizes, materials, and styles. Many of today’s newer styles can add a wonderful element to any home, while also providing the security you need for your family.

Garage Door Sizes: Finding the Best Fit for Your Garage

Source

The first rule of thumb when looking for a garage door is to know the size. Fortunately, many homes are built with standard-size garage doors. And most prefab door sizes are cut to fit. DIY garage door kits are typically six feet high and six feet wide for single-car garages. Two-car garage doors are 16 feet wide. Here are some tips for determining how big or small you need a door, or when to customize it:

Take the necessary steps in the garage

It takes more than just the width and height of the opening. You should also measure the space to the side or from the edge of the opening to the closest inside corner. This area will contain vertical tracks. Buy the best window sizes at an affordable price:

Another important space is from the top edge of the opening to the headliner. Also known as headroom, this space will house the gate opener and the garage door itself for the drop-down and canopy types. Standard openers require at least 12 inches of clearance, but options are available for shorter headspaces.

The back quarter is the length that starts from the inside side of the opening to the back wall. This will help you see how much ceiling space you have left when the door is fully open. This is very important if you plan to hang storage units or bikes from the ceiling.

Although it’s a bit minimal for many doors, pay attention to the vertical clearance of the driveway and interiors as well. Depending on the mechanism and size of the door, you will need some space for the door to move up and up. This is not the case with roll-up sectional doors, which do not need this type of space to open properly.

Take note of the height of the vehicle

It is more a question of mechanisms and not of the sizes of the garage door. Canopy-type doors would not suit those with tall vehicles well or would need the full vertical clearance of the threshold. Folding doors may not be a good fit for wide vehicles as you will want to free up horizontal space.

Take note of the other items in your garage

Shelving and ceiling storage should be considered as they will have to share space with interior rails and mechanisms.

Take note of the purpose of the garage

This will help you decide if you need additional features. People who use the garage as a workshop will appreciate the additional natural light coming through the windows. A small cut in the door will be helpful if you use the garage door in any way other than to get in or out of the vehicle.

Custom garage China WDMA doors are the best option if your garage measurements do not match the available pre-cut doors or if you are looking for a particular design that is not available. The first step is to get the correct measurements.

Right now, many manufacturers offer estimates on door size, materials, and door and gate installation for the garage door opener in a neat package. If you do not plan to install the door yourself, there is always a way to secure the garage easily and effectively.

How to Measure Standard Sizes of Exterior Doors

Source

Typical single exterior doors should be what is known as a 36 x 80 door. Some of the side or rear doors may be smaller in width up to 32 x 80.

We will see what that means until the necessary measures. For now, let’s talk about simple 36 x 80 pre-hung doors. You can buy different sizes of doors at China WDMA  door.

The nominal width of the door is 36 inches. The nominal height of the door is stated as 6/8, which is 6 feet 8 inches or just 80 inches. Since these doors are pre-hung with the door jamb frame, the actual size of the pre-hung door is 37 ½ inches by 81 5/8 inches. Note that the width is 1½ inches wider than the actual door and the height is 1 5/8 inches taller than the actual door. Keep this in mind.

Now we need to get to the approximate measurements of the size of the opening. In other words, the entry area “before any door is installed” must be larger than the size of the pre-hung door.

The approximate opening size is the size of the construction with the side wood (studs) and header. For 36 x 80 exterior doors, this rough opening should be 38 ¼ inches by 82 1/8 inches. As you can see, the standard exterior door size rough opening is 2¼ inches wider than 36 inches and 2 1/8 inches taller than 80 inches. Keep this in mind.

If you are using brick mold openings, the dimensions would be 40 inches by 82 7/8 inches. As you can see by using brick trim, the width of the opening is 4 inches wider than the door and 2 7/8 inches taller than the door itself. Keep this in mind.

So suppose here now you are working with new construction or replacing an existing door, you will need to measure the approximate opening size.

Trim may need to be removed to obtain this measurement on existing doors. Here’s how to determine the approximate opening size for your home. For the width of the rough opening, you will measure between the studs at the top then the center, and then at the bottom. You should take the smallest of those three numbers as the width.

For the approximate height of the opening, measure from the floor to the bottom of the header on the left and right sides of the opening. Use the smaller of the two measurements.

These two measurements are your approximate opening size. If you have anything other than 38 ¼ inches x 82 1/8 inches (or very close), you may not be able to move through this.

You may have to choose a different size door or go for a special order door. Time to call in the professionals!

There are several good reasons besides the obvious one for placing the pre-hung door in the rough opening that this opening has to be larger than the pre-installed door itself.

You need extra space to ensure that the installed pre-hung door can be plugged in and squared properly. Door manufacturers have slightly different sizes for their pre-hung doors, so you will need additional space to fit most manufacturers.

You need extra space because doors expand and contract with changes in temperature and seasons. It is not a large number, but it is enough for a tight fit to create problems during this expansion and contraction. We could give you a good chart of the different door sizes, but the chart may vary slightly by manufacturer.

So let’s go with a formula that you can use no matter what door size you have.

  • Approximate Opening Width Size = Nominal Door Width + 2 ¼ inches (or + 4 inches if brick mold is used).
  • Approximate Opening Height Size = Nominal Door Height (80 inches) + 2 1/8 inches (or + 2 7/8 inches if using a brick mold).
